[news] Eye4You in SmallWorlds

July 14th, 2008 Posted in SmallWorlds | No Comments »

Last month, SmallWorlds launched itself to the public. It runs in a browser and only requires the latest Adobe Flash Player. Storm Basiat set up an Eye4You Alliance room-check it out (gift some furniture if you feel so inclined!). You complete missions to be able to earn money to purchase things for the room. Missions involve tasks that allow the user to become more familiar with the world. We can integrate a lot of the tools we are already using such as Flickr, YouTube, Twitter and more. Visit Eye4You and friend us in SmallWorlds! (I’m Saryn Jenkins btw).

Robot Building Contest A Fabulous Success!

July 9th, 2008 Posted in Uncategorized | 1 Comment »

Hello Everyone,
This is your intrepid fellow space traveller Arc Indigo checking in to report about the robot building contest at Eye4You Alliance.  The mission, which 10 brave avies accepted, was to build a scripted or unscripted robot with personality.  The robot could sit there or do something but it had to look great doing it!

There are many robots with personality in the real world which were highlighted in a Science Friday segment about social robots.  You can find information about that broadcast segment at http://www.sciencefriday.com/program/archives/200804254 .  NASA has robots with personality too - take a look at the picture of Robonaut….it’s a humanoid robot built to work like another EVA astronaut but with special abilities. Check it out … http://robonaut.jsc.nasa.gov/

All of the entries in the robot building contest were great - congratulations to everyone!! I am really impressed with the quality of the work. Here are the results of the contest:

Scripted:
1st Place: RXG Bot
2nd Place: Citrus Bot
3rd Place: Aperture Bot
Honorable Mention:
NoobDe Cube Bot

Unscripted:
1st Place: Planet Searcher Bot
2nd Place: Teddies Bot
3rd Place: EVE Bot
Honorable Mention:
Helper Bot
Honorable Mention:
Light Bulb
Honorable Mention:
Crooked Bot

Popular Votes:
1st Place: Light Bulb
2nd Place: Teddies Bot
3rd Place: Tie
Aperture Bot
RXG Bot

Special Thanks to Daniel Voyager, Storm Basiat and Dreyfus Dryke for their talents and enormous help. And of course….we are most appreciative of the opportunity to work at Eye4You. Thank you Saryn. :)

Be sure and check out Daniel Voyager’s machinima to get a look at the robots:

[news] the Tech Museum of Innovation-irl

July 6th, 2008 Posted in events, partners | No Comments »

Last week when I was in CA, I visited the Tech Museum of Innovation. It was great to see their workspace for the SL and TSL exhibits from their installation which opened in June at the museum of people building in SL and having it reconstructed irl. Toward the end of the video the TG winner(s) are mentioned with Avi and Philip Linden talking. While the exhibit wasn’t created irl, it was showcased as a photo in the rl museum along with other exhibits from SL. Music, art, and film were recreated in the museum. I got to meet Copernic (tsl approved adult from the Tech) and a teen that is an intern at the museum. It was a short but great visit and I got a lot of ideas for my rl library. Look for the Tech’s next contest on Eye4You; UCanTu.
